Knowing what food labels really mean can be tricky. What exactly is the difference between "All Natural" and "Grassfed?" Does cloned meat need to be labeled as such? This short article does a good job of letting you know what you need to know.
USDA Beef Standards
Some of the highlights:
- "All Natural" allows for produces to give un-natural amounts of growth hormone and antibiotics to their meet.
- The USDA has ruled that cloned animals are safe for human consumption...scary. And therefore does not need to be labeled as such.
What to do:
Facts like this should scare, anger and disappoint you. The fact that lobbyiest have such power over our health is just wrong. The good news is we have plenty of resources at our finger tips. Here in NC we have legitimate producers of good quality meats. Grassfed means exactly what it indicates, and no hormones are included. Visit our farmers markets and do everything you can to support our local farmers. I for one prefer shopping outside on a beautiful weekend to being stuffed in a crowded supermarket.
